What’s New for the 2018 Nissan Sentra?
As one of the longest-running cars in the compact sedan class, the Nissan Sentra has been through many changes over the years. As one of the entry-level vehicles in its lineup, it has received plenty of attention from Nissan in order to always keep it current and attractive. It had its last major visual upgrade in 2016 and got two new high-performance trim lines – SR and NISMO – last year. The upgrades for the 2018 Nissan Sentra focus around improving the availability of the various technology and safety features that have kept the Sentra at the forefront of the technological advances in its class. This year, almost every trim level of the Sentra gets more technology and safety as standard features, making this a perfect time to upgrade you current Sentra or trade out your current vehicle for the 2018 Nissan Sentra.
The biggest change for the 2018 Sentra model year is the addition of the automatic emergency braking to every trim level as a standard feature. Every Sentra from the entry-level Sentra S to the high-end Sentra SL is now equipped with this innovative technology, which uses radar to check the speed and distance of the cars in front of you and, if a collision seems likely, apply the brakes automatically to minimize the impact or avoid an accident altogether. Because this system can react much faster than a human can, it adds a significant layer of safety for all kinds of drivers. Other changes for the 2018 model year are specific to certain trim lines of the Sentra. The base Sentra S gets a fairly significant boost in its standard equipment thanks to the new standard rearview camera, as well as the 5-inch touchscreen infotainment control on which the camera’s view is projected. The mid-range SV is also slightly nicer this year. It features a new 16-inch aluminium wheel design and offers dual-zone automatic climate control as a standard feature. The biggest improvement in standard features, however, comes on the high-end SL, SR and Nismo trim lines. Both the Sentra SR and the Sentra SL now include Intelligent Cruise Control, which is Nissan’s version of the radar-based system that lets you set a preferred follow distance to the car in front of you, and lets your car handle speeding up or slowing down to maintain that distance. Similarly, many of the high-end technology features that were part of the optional SL Technology package and the NISMO Technology Package on the respective trims are now standard equipment on those models, adding more value to the high-end comfort and performance trims of the 2018 Nissan Sentra.
