Gasoline may be cheaper now than it has ever been, but there are few vehicles that were as hot in 2014 as the Nissan LEAF, which locked up its best year ever with more than a month left on the calendar.

That kind of performance may become the norm for the world’s best-selling EV if CEO Carlos Ghosn’s words hold water (as they so often do). In an interview on Japanese television earlier in December, Ghosn was pressed as to whether the LEAF would be able to deliver better performance than its current 84-mile range.

His response? “Yes.”

When asked if it meant that the range would double, meeting or exceeding a range of about 250 miles, he responded, “yes.”

Carlos Ghosn is not a man of many words, to be sure, but the words he does offer are generally the ones he’s good for.

Furthering this, Daily Kanban spoke to a source within Nissan who stated that the automaker is “no more than one model cycle away” from bringing a 250-mile LEAF to the masses.
