2018 Nissan Frontier vs 2018 Toyota Tacoma

Serving Sanford, Fort Bragg, and Apex

Mid-size pickup trucks offer a lot to like. They are more maneuverable than their full-sized cousins, and their smaller dimensions ease parking on the street or in the garage. Two popular and well-made models are the 2018 Nissan Frontier and the 2018 Toyota Tacoma. Both offer superior craftsmanship, great reliability and many different configurations. While both are excellent trucks, you’ll find that the Nissan Frontier provides a much better value for your money

Powertrain

The 2018 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab S and the 2018 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab SR5 have roughly the same MSRPs. Yet the Frontier boasts a powerful 4.0-liter V6 putting out 261 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque, while the Tacoma’s 2.7-liter 4-cylinder outputs 159 horsepower and 180 lb-ft. That’s a Frontier advantage of more than 100 hp. Frontier S tows up to 6,640 pounds vs 3,500 for the Tacoma SR. Both offer 2- or 4-wheel drive, and manual or automatic transmissions.

Dimensions

The Nissan Frontier is a little smaller and nimbler on the outside, but plenty spacious on the inside. The Frontier provides 39.9 inches of front headroom, 0.2 inches more that found on the Tacoma. That’s great news for the driver and front-row passenger, and there’s even better news in the second row, where occupants enjoy a 0.3-inch headroom advantage in the Frontier. No one likes getting hit on the noggin while riding on bumpy roads. It’s also no fun for the rear passengers to have their legs cramp up after long rides, which is why they will appreciate the extra 1.0 inch of legroom in the Nissan. Frontier gives you 101.1 cubic feet of passenger space.

Features

Both models come with a many functional and comfort features. For 2018, Frontier added new standard features, including a rear-view camera, air conditioning, cruise control, a 5.0-inch screen and Bluetooth connectivity. If you compare the Frontier Crew Cab S with the Tacoma SR5, you’ll notice that the Nissan offers certain standard feature advantages, such as a full chrome grille, a pickup cargo box light, driver and passenger vanity mirror, illuminated glove box, rear defroster, 4-wheel disc brakes (Tacoma has rear drum brakes), and three years of roadside assistance (vs two for the Toyota).
