The 2018 Nissan Sentra has been dramatically redesigned to compete fiercely on the mid-size market. This sedan is available in the sporty NISMO and Midnight Edition trims that have class-exclusive styling. The 2018 Honda Civic is a mid-size sedan that runs on a reliable platform. Both vehicles offer turbocharged engines, but the Sentra boasts better capabilities. The NissanConnect system also offers more connectivity features than the HondaLink platform.
Having an all-new design, the 2018 Sentra 1.6 L Direct Injection Gasoline (DIG) produces up to 188 horsepower. This turbocharged engine has a peak torque rating of 177 pound-feet at 5,200 RPM. Having a displacement of 1.5 L, the 2018 Civic has a turbo engine that can’t whip out more than 174 hp and 162 lb-ft. The direct injection (DI) technology isn’t as sophisticated as the DIG mechanism. Both sedans offer a manual transmission system that has a gearbox with six settings. For 2018, Nissan updated the patented Xtronic Continuously Variable Transmission. This legendary transmission now comes with the Manual Shift Mode, which isn’t available in the Civic’s classic CVT. Both cars roll on front-wheel drive, so they match up evenly in terms of handling on paved roads. However, the 11.7-inch vented front disc brakes in the Sentra perform better than the Civic’s 11.1-inch front disc brakes with ventilation. Additionally, this Nissan is available with 11.5-inch solid disc brakes on the rear wheels. The Civic only offers 10.2-inch disc brakes on the rear wheels.
The 2018 Sentra NISMO has a track-inspired design that’s hard to beat. This exclusive trim is fitted with 18-inch wheels and all-season terrains for optimum traction. Black mirror caps with red stripes add some contemporary flair to the body. The NISMO also has distinct red stripes on the front and rear fascias. Shiny chrome covers the door handles and trunk lining of this sporty model. Part of the aerodynamic body kit, the rear spoiler decreases drag by more than 30 percent. The Sentra NISMO also has a sporty cockpit with racing-style cues. Dark headliners and carbon fiber trims dominate the interior design. The front and rear sport seats combine ergonomics with modern style. A signature tachometer with a red background is another notable feature in the Sentra NISMO’s cabin. The 2018 Honda Civic simply doesn’t offer as many dramatic interior and exterior features as the aggressive NISMO. Additionally, the flashy S Midnight Style and SR Midnight Edition have cool styling with plenty of optional accessories.
The NissanConnect infotainment system is ready to take your commands on the go. SiriusXM Travel Link and Traffic subscriptions supplement the GPS navigation system, which includes colored maps. The 2018 Civic also offers a navigation system with traffic updates by HD Digital. With easy access to Twitter, Facebook and Google, you’ll find it easy to connect to the outside world while driving the 2018 Sentra. These popular digital applications aren’t available in the Civic’s multimedia portal. Additionally, the signature NissanConnect suite has dozens of other services that provide guidance, security and utility. The Stolen Vehicle Locator, Emergency Call and Parked Car Finder offer extra peace of mind. You’ll also appreciate the Google Send to Car, Connected Search and remote engine start. The HondaLink platform just doesn’t offer as many amenities as the NissanConnect. Both sedans are connected to HD Radio, SiriusXM and Pandora. The iHeartRadio service ultimately gives the 2018 Sentra an edge in the entertainment category.
