Gainesville Graduate DeShaun Watson Finalist for Heisman Trophy Award
Nissan has sponsored the reputable Heisman Trophy award for five years now, in addition to sponsoring the Heisman House itself and supporting the Heisman Trust charity work. In an exciting intersection of events, one of the finalists for the Heisman Trophy happens to have his roots in Gainesville, Georgia, right where Carriage Nissan is located. Gainesville High School graduate DeShaun Watson was the fan favorite for the award, despite only being a finalist.
Watson, now the quarterback for Clemson University, was displayed on the cover of Sports Illustrated recently in honor of his incredible performance. While only a sophomore, Watson has already lead his undefeated team by throwing for 5,312 yards with 30 touchdowns and rushing for 887 yards with 11 touchdowns. His competitors for the trophy, which celebrates the MVP of college football, were Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey and Alabama’s Derrick Henry.
While Derrick Henry was ultimately the player who took home the Heisman Trophy award, Henry came in third in an online poll in which fans voted for who they wanted to win the trophy. Meanwhile, Gainesville grad DeShaun Watson asserted himself as the poll winner. Even if he didn’t win, Watson is undoubtedly the fan favorite of the three finalists. Carriage Nissan wants to congratulate Watson on a job well-done.
