Georgia Road Trips: Explore Your Region
Labor Day is the perfect time of year to check out the region with some of the best Georgia road trips. We’ve put together a list of some of the best, starting from Atlanta, and ranging from a couple hours to the whole day of travelling.
Athens is a great place to explore if you have the day off. Located about 70 miles east of Atlanta, this city will take about one and a half hours to get to. As a booming college town, there’s always something to do. Athens was also the home of several world-famous musicians and bands, including: REM, the B-52s, Widespread Panic, and more. In fact, the city is named number one on the Rolling Stone College Music Scene in America.
Looking for something more secluded? Check out Summerville, located 90 miles northwest of the city. This small mountain town has great scenery, tall trees, and a range of festivals, parks, and other outdoor activities. For you hikers out there, there is no better place than Summerville.
Birmingham is only about two hours and thirty minutes from Atlanta, and has tons to do. As Alabama’s largest city, it has a rich history and great culture. Explore festivals, museums, and some seriously good eats.
Finally, Providence Canyon State Park is a two-hour drive southwest of Atlanta. This “Little Grand Canyon” has some exquisite rock formations spreading over 1,000 acres. Discovered in the 1800s, this place has been a mecca for nature lovers everywhere. Just be sure to bring supplies.
