What is Nissan ProPilot Assist?

Single lane highway driving can be a hassle. We all know that. It’s a stop-and-go situation that immediately becomes boring, frustrating, and difficult to pay attention to. Many accidents are caused in just these same mundane driving situations where it’s stop, go, stop, go, and… accident. Thanks to Nissan’s new ProPilot Assist, drivers have a little hero on its way to the rescue. The technology is now being added to several new and upcoming models of Nissan, making it an immediate boon to autonomous driving technologies.

In a stop and go driving environment, you do three things: accelerate, steer, and brake. In the old days, cruise control helped on long stretches of straight highway, but you were on your own if you were trying to get down a busy one way street with a lot of stops and starts. Not anymore! With ProPilot, you’ll be able to set the distance between you and the car ahead of you. The result is that the vehicle can start and stop without your input. Your vehicle will brake if it senses a vehicle in front of you, steer to keep you in your lane, and accelerate if there’s room to do so. All you have to do is make sure that you maintain a safe distance input. Nissan will obviously have instructions on how to get the most out of this technology and they’ll let you know what safe minimum distances are. After all, you don’t want to ride anyone’s bumper and you also don’t want to lose time on your commute.

It’s the hope of Nissan, Nissan drivers, and other drivers on the road that this technology will be effective and a success. Any mechanical failures could definitely spell a major setback for the new technology, but right now expectations for ProPilot Assist are flying high and the response to people who’ve tried the technology has been overwhelmingly positive. Thanks to Nissan’s engineers and safety teams, we’re getting a safer Nissan that still looks great, and of course, you can always take over from ProPilot if you feel like going back to more traditional driving. After all, some folks aren’t passive drivers. They love to drive and get where they’re going, even if it requires a lot of time and attention.
