Tips for Driving in the Rain
Watching the weather will give you an indication of when a severe storm is rolling in, but it can’t protect you from harm. Fortunately, taking proper precautions can help you avoid any accidents on the road. We here at Carriage Nissan want you to follow these tips for driving in the rain so you can stay safe this spring.
Wind – Strong storms bring high winds which can lead to a loss of control of the vehicle. Keep an eye out for areas prone to high winds, namely those without any large obstacles, and be sure to keep your hands on the wheel at all times in case you need to steer against the wind.
Attention – It’s important to remember that you aren’t the only driver on the road so paying attention and minimizing distractions is a necessity. Slick roads can lead to accidents and larger vehicles are more prone to high winds and could have trouble staying in their lane. Keep an eye on those around you so you can react as quickly as possible to a potential problem.
Lights – Driving without your lights on through any level of rainfall is a major safety hazard and one that could get you a ticket. Make sure to turn your lights on and leave plenty of space between vehicles to ensure others can see you and there’s time to stop, just in case.
